A Stripe could represent the end of the road or infinity depending
on it's form. When I paint stripes,
I
go to another place full of movement and color.
It all started by playing with
color schemes back in the early 1980’s. Initially, I would
create abstract drawings but then I had an epiphany. When ever I
saw an artist using stripes it was always in an abstract way (minus
Victor Vasarely with his Zebra images), I wanted to combine the
design of stripes with a recognizable subject, hence giving
something ordinary an extraordinary presents.
I
paint dogs in stripes because it makes us look at dogs not just
as cute or sweet animals but because they are part of our
culture and painting them in stripes echoes how integrated they
have become. |
